Duterte urges Congress to pass National Land Use Act

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte urged Congress on Monday, July 24, to immediately pass the proposed National Land Use Act, citing the aggravating environmental situation in the country.

"Given the fact that Mindanao is unusually warming, I ask all agencies involved in food production to look into this and act accordingly," Duterte said in his State of the Nation Address (Sona) at Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City.

"Also, I am appealing to all our legislators to immediately pass the National Land Use Act or NALUA to ensure the rationale of sustainable use of our land," he added.

The proposed National Land Use Act endorsed by Senator Loren Legarda seeks to institute a national land use and physical planning as mechanisms for identifying, determining and evaluating land use and allocation patterns to promote sustainable management and utilization of natural resources.
