Early end sinks Pael's hopes

RENOEL Pael’s woes continue after yet another defeat last weekend.

The 26-year-old Pael dropped a technical decision against Glenn Suminguit last Saturday night at the Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque City.

The fight was stopped on the advice of the ring physician in the 2:09 mark of the fifth round after Suminguit got cut.

The bout went to the scorecards with Suminguit ahead in all three scorecards - 49-47, 48-46 and 50-45.

“It was controversial,” Pael’s trainer Brix Flores told SunStar Cebu.

“We lost. The opponent got cut and the doctor stopped the fight even though the cut was small. The opponent was starting to get tired. It’s a shame because I believe that the opponent wasn’t going to continue before they called it a technical decision.”

Pael dropped his last three fights and fell to 21-7-1 with 11 knockouts, while Suminguit improved to 20-3 with 10 knockouts. (EKA)
