Editorial: Can they handle it?

ON SUNDAY night, parts of Davao City experienced an hour or so of brownout. Some lasted up to six hours. According to Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC), the outage was due to ERA Line 1 tripping because of a problem found in its Bajada Substation.

Meanwhile, some portions of Davao city are also experiencing low pressure to no water at all. The Davao City Water District (DCWD) has also been doing its fair share of short-term to medium-term solutions to address the water problem in some portions of the city.

While we commend DLPC and DCWD for their efforts to seemingly improve their services, we urge them somehow to step up their game.

With the influx of investments and developments in the city, will their services be able to cater to the needs of the city as a whole? Likewise, are the infrastructures ready to cater to the growing demand of the city?

The recent power outages, which are not really caused by low power supply, and water interruptions, have some of us questioning will our power and water utilities be able to cater to the increasing demand?

We call on DLPC and DCWD to assure the public that there is ample supply of power and water.

While we can see that there are initiatives to inform Dabawenyos about the efforts being done to improve their respective facilities, some can barely feel or experience anything positive from these efforts. These sentiments are very much evident in the comments or social media posts of Dabawenyos.

The excuse of the executives or officials that they are also experiencing the brownouts or water interruptions won't put anybody at ease.
