Editorial: It's the season of love

WE'RE putting this out as an editorial today to remind everyone that -- love is all that matters.

Yes, we're saying that tongue in cheek as we watch the harassed and harried shopper and motorist.

At no other season in a year do people get very irritated, very impatient, and bordering on road rage. True, it happens every Valentine's Day, but that's just one day, in the same way that Araw ng Dabaw creates horrendous traffic for a day. It also happens during Kadayawan, but that's just over a weekend. But the Christmas season?

On the season of love, we curse more often than we do. Isn't that ironic?

It's not as if it's the first time traffic jammed during the holiday season. It has been jamming since we were kids, except that the jams were in smaller scale. Like maybe in the 1980s, the jammed parts were the original downtown, meaning from Bankerohan to where Tomas Claudio (aka Quirino Avenue) meets J.P. Laurel and Sta. Ana Avenues. By the 1990s, the jam already reached Bajada with Gaisano Mall and Victoria Plaza already built. By the 2000s, it's from north to south, what with malls peppering every major district.

In short, traffic has always gone worse during the season, we all know that. Why curse? Why get irritated? Why get angry?

True, everyone hates to be caught in traffic. This should give you every reason to manage your time, schedule your trips, and just stay home when you don't have to attend to anything.

This is just a month. The congestion will lessen. Although, yes, Davao City traffic is indeed worsening, but it has not yet reached December levels.

Remember: This is the season of giving, give love. Don't curse.
