Editorial: Just do what's right

IN THE news Monday morning, Philippine National Police Chief Roland "Bato" dela Rosa was reacting to jeers that he was very lenient on the seven policemen in Angeles City involved in the kidnap of three Koreans last December 30, 2016 when he made them do push-ups during his visit to Camp Tomas Pepito of the Angeles City Police Office.

He pointed out that there are charges filed as well, but he was just sticking to what's legal -- pushups. Doing something more violent to merit his anger will indeed make him dead meat for the vultures against the Duterte administration whose only reason for existence is to make this administration fail.

It's unfortunate that these vultures have access to media and thus can keep on a barrage of attacks wherever this administration would go. It is best then for dela Rosa to just keep on with what he has to do, for as long as he abides by the laws and the procedures. Since charges have already been filed against these scalawags, then what he has to make sure of is that there are more than enough evidence to ensure conviction to the highest degree.

Let the critics continue criticizing, and act on the positive points they raise. But ignore the critics whose only reason for existence is to destroy for they will forever pick on the bad and make even the good look bad.

Stick to the mandate to cleanse the ranks and create the police force that every citizen can be proud of, and do it fast, Sir, because there is so much more to do beyond just cleansing what's inside.
