AN ELDERLY woman was killed by her nephew inside her house at Barangay Patun-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental early Thursday morning, Aug. 3.
Police identified the fatality as 73-year-old Marciana Cuales.
Calatrava police chief John Joel Batusbatusan said Cuales was sleeping inside her room around 12:30 a.m. when the suspect Jonas Bala-on, 30, of Barangay Agpangi entered her room and killed her using a blade.
The suspect attempted to end his life but he was stopped by his cousin, whom he also hit with a bladeĀ
Cuales died in a hospital after a few hours.
Batusbatusan said the suspect was believed to be mentally-ill but his family denied it. Bala-on would usually go to his aunt's house but it was only on that day that he decided to stay there.
Murder charges were filed against Bala-on, who is detained at the station. (GYM)
