ERC inspects Ceneco’s compliance with distribution, grid code

A TEAM from the Distribution Management Committee (DMC) and Grid Management Committee (GMC) of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is currently checking the compliance of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) with the distribution and grid code.

Engineer Leomel Tambanillo, manager of Ceneco Corporate Planning Department, Wednesday said the functions of these ERC offices include monitoring of the compliance of all distribution utilities (DUs), generators, and transmission utilities in the country like National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).

He said among the areas being checked by the team include the protection measures for the substations, compliance on proper connections, and coordination with NGCP during the implementation of manual load dropping, among others.

“They see to it that we have documents, know how we do the manual load dropping, and even how we implement rotational brownouts,” Tambanillo said, adding that non-compliant power utilities are given compliance plan by the ERC.

For Ceneco, the audit will run until Friday. After which, an exit conference will be held to discuss the result of the inspection.

Tambanillo said that during the last monitoring, Ceneco got an 85 percent compliance rate.

“With so many set of rules to comply, the cooperative is really trying its best to improve its operations,” he said, adding that they are optimistic to still get a positive remark this time.
