Espedilla: Don't want to make love because of migraine (Part 3)

(Foreword: This is the continuation to our response to the letter sent by Myrna of Digos regarding her concerns on refusing to make love with her husband because of her migraine.)

DEAR Myrna of Digos,

Now, we are almost at the end of the road here.

For migraines, you should really be able to know what really works for you. For instance, some women who were taking birth control pills would feel that these pills will ease their migraine. But for some, these pills make their migraine worse. Well, sometimes switching to a different type of pill could work. But, before you change your pill, you should see your physician. Please don’t ever try to self-medicate.

I can remember a friend who is suffering from migraine and she would gobble two 500 mg paracetamols every 2 to 3 hours to ease the pain she is feeling. Gosh! Little did she knew that the maximum amount of paracetamol for adults is 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose and 4 grams (4000 mg) per day, and taking more paracetamol can cause damage to her liver.

However, many would feel better if they keep up with their regular sleep and meal schedule. So, sleep and eat well – so that you will grow taller than your mama and papa… hehe… of course, that’s just a joke!

Exercising regularly and drinking a lot of water can also help. Try also changing your lifestyle. If you smoke and drink, stop.

The problem with migraine is sometimes, if not oftentimes, this would hit us unexpectedly. Sometimes at those times, our partner would feel romantic, but if migraine comes in between, then don’t expect for you experiencing some heavens. Maybe you just would want to shut yourself from the world. That’s gory!

As I have said, you should know yourself and that means you should also know your migraine triggers as well. You can manage your migraines and re-ignite that romance by saying "No" to things that can give you headache like red wine, chocolates, strong smells like perfume and scented candles, bright light and changes in weather. Of course, if there are other things that you are sensitive to, like MSGs, be sure to cut them off from your system.

Oh, we are again running out of space so, let me then continue this in my next issue. Until then!
