Espedilla: How to lower cancer risks

Published on

DEAR Dr. Fritz,

Greetings to you and to your followers. I am Emmy S. of Mati. I am writing to you because my aunt died lately due to colon cancer while my uncle died last year of prostate cancer. My mother was also diagnosed just this month of breast cancer. I have seen how much they suffered.

Cancer certainly runs in our family. I know this and I am quite afraid. The truth is I am not just afraid, but, very, very afraid. How could I lower my risk against cancer? I have heard that some supplements can help prevent cancer. Is this true? I am really willing to try if your answer will be positive regarding this matter.

Thank you so much and I do hope to hear from you soon. More power and God bless.

Dear Emmy S. of Mati,

rI can understand how you feel. Cancer is really something that you should be afraid of. I have seen friends who suffered from cancer and fought it mightily but they later lost their battle after their bodies become frail and had been reduced to just skin and bones when they were finally laid to rest. It’s really an agonizing moment to see these people you love suffer in their fight. But, this is some battle which you have to confront and face head on no matter what it takes. When you confront them, you knew in your heart that at least, you have fought the good fight even if you will lose to it eventually – and that is what matters.

I remember the late Senator Shahani who had just succumbed to colon cancer. I have seen her interview about a month or two before she died. She might have lost but, I knew she fought the good fight.

Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. The good news is, about one of three cancer cases can be prevented, this is according to the World Health Organization. There might be no magic words or pills that would prevent you from getting this dreaded disease but there are things which you can do to help you improve your chances of not getting the cancer chain in your family.

Hmmm…as much as I wanted to talk more of the tips and tricks of the trade to help you in your fight against the big C, but, we are losing space this time, so let me then continue this in my next issue. Until then!
