Ex-mayor opposes Gica’s appeal

FORMER Dumanjug mayor Nelson Garcia filed an opposition yesterday to the motion for reconsideration filed by Dumanjug Mayor Efren Gica over his dismissal from public service.

Gica was sacked by the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas for grave misconduct and dishonesty after he tampered a restaurant receipt to bloat the amount from P11,435 to P21,435.

The Ombudsman has also filed criminal charges against Gica.

Garcia said that the justifications laid down by Gica in his motion for reconsideration are “big lies.”

Aside from tampering with the receipts, Garcia said that Gica submitted falsified receipts of the expenses he paid for a dinner with the Association of Local Barangay Officials in one of the restaurants in Cebu.

Garcia then asked the town’s new local chief executive, Rainerio Asentista, to be honest in his dealings and avoid corruption in government transactions. Jona Godinez, USJ-R Intern
