Ex-mayor welcomes police probe

FORMER Lugait, Misamis Oriental Mayor Wellie Lim said Thursday, December 22, he is willing to submit himself to investigation by the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao.

Lim, publicly tagged by President Rodrigo Duterte as a “narco-politician,” said he welcomes the investigation to be done by the new PRO leadership.

But Lim said if the probe will be clean, fair and honest, the inquiry will help prove his innocence over his alleged involvement in the illegal drugs trade.

“Basin mag search sila ba unya butangan dayon og drugs bisan wala tay labot. Maulaw mana sila sa presidente nga naapil ko sa lista unya human wala diay silay makita so mao na akong kabalaka (Perhaps during their search, they’ll put drugs even though I’m not involved. They will be embarrassed to face the president once they are not able to find any [drugs], that is what I am worried about),” Lim said.

Lim is willing to face any drug charges as he maintained he does not engage in illegal drug activities.

He also dared the police to produce evidence.

“Wala koy kabalaka nga kasuhan ko kay wala man gayud silay ebidensya nga involved ko bisan kinsa imong pangutan-on diri sa lungsod (I’m not worried that they will file a case against me because they do not have any evidence that I am involved in drugs even if they asked anyone from this city),” Lim said.

Lim said he will bear the burden of clearing his name and have it deleted from the list.

“Ang problema unsaon nako paglimpyo sa akong pangalan nga president man gud unya lain ra ba usahay atong president dili nimo masabtan (The problem is how am I going to clear my name when sometimes we do not even understand what is on our president’s mind),” Lim added.

Lim cried foul when Duterte implicated him to illegal drugs trade without proper investigation.

PRO director Agripino Javier has earlier called upon the former officials in the region linked by Duterte to surrender.

Javier said he will start the probe to substantiate Duterte's pronouncement saying the president would not link narco-politicians without basis.

Lim said he will, in due time, yield to authorities to clear his name and redeem his stained image after he gets a word from Misamis Oriental Yevgeny Emano.

Lim had called Emano and sought advice about the most appropriate actions to take.

“Gahulat pako ni Governor Emano unsa iyang advice. Wala pami kabalik og storya (I am waiting for Governor Emano’s advice. We have not talk about it yet),” Lim said.
