Ex-village chief to welcome reconciliation with Oro mayor

FORMER Taglimao barangay chairman William Guialani is now dilly-dallying over whether to press on or to give up in his battle with Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno.

A known critic of Mayor Oscar Moreno, Guialani said on Friday he is raising the white flag and will no longer squabble with Moreno.

Guialani, the complainant of Moreno's disqualification case recently dismissed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), said he will welcome a "mediation" with Moreno.

The Comelec had dismissed Guialani’s disqualification case last September 28, a copy of which was only received by Moreno’s camp Thursday afternoon, October 20.

Guialani said he had filed a motion for reconsideration before the Comelec but said the motion does not include any new evidence against Moreno.

"Nagile ko ug Motion for Reconsideration (MR) for compliance lang kay macontempt unya ko pero akong MR, wala nato siyay material evidence. Gidawar pud nako ang decision sa Comelec kay rule of law man na siya," Guialani said.

In a television interview aired on Friday, Guialani said the exact opposite saying his motion filed before the Comelec will introduce new evidence.

Guialani also said he thinks Moreno's criminal case before the Sandiganbayan with regard to the Ajinomoto tax settlement agreement will also be dropped anytime soon.

"Gipul-an nasad ko ani nga kaso, surrender nalang ko, tama na. Enough na ‘to ang akong gihimo, dili nako interested ani nga mga butang," he said.

"Gusto nako nga mahuman na ni, kay una, dili na kaya sa financial, sunod, gibiyaan nako sa akong mga abogado ug ikatulo, gipul-an nako," he said.

Guialani filed several cases against Moreno, two of which, the Ajinomoto agreement and the disqualification case, almost got Moreno out of the City Hall.

Moreno questioned Guialani’s motive in filing these cases and said the cases were filed at the behest of former mayor Vicente ‘ Dongkoy’ Emano.

“The disqualification case had no legal or cogent reason, in the very first place,” Moreno had said.

"Nonetheless, they still proceeded with it, and endeavored to cloud the people's will. It was plainly the result of wild illusion, and an unmitigated disrespect- and desperate attempt to weaken the legitimacy of a democratic process," Moreno said.

"I thank the Comelec for reaffirming the rule of law, and for heeding the clear voice of the sovereign people, expressed overwhelmingly in a fair, clean, and honest election," Moreno added.
