Exhibitors’ exemption from mayor’s permit pushed

A DAVAO City Council committee recommended to the mayor the acceptance of request of Mindanao Trade Expo (MTE) 2017 organizer to exempt the exhibitors from the city in paying the mandatory mayor's permit.

Committee of Trade and Industry chair Councilor Jimmy Dureza, after a committee hearing on Wednesday, July 5, said that the participating small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the city will be exempted from the mayor’s permit fee, which is mandated under Article 26 in Section 221 of Revenue Code 2005 in City of Davao.

“[Pero] katong mga (Those) participating SMEs outside of Davao City will be required to pay the Mayor’s permit fees of P300 a day for seven days," he said.

Mindanao Trade Expo Executive Director, Marian Mahinay-Comilang said that the upcoming 22nd Mindanao Trade Expo, in cooperation with Department of Trade and Industry, Philexport, and Abreeza Ayala Malls, will highlight handicrafts of the Matigsalog Tribe in Marilog District, among other products that will be available during the trade fair.

She said that this year’s theme will be “Empowering Community through Creative Product Designs.”

“[It showcases the modern version homegrown products from communities.” she said.

“These are handcrafted collections that promote culture, tradition of our Indigenous People (IP) in Mindanao” Mahinay-Comilang added.

Mindanao Trade Expo has members across Davao from Zamboanga to Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The event, which will run from August 11 to 17, will have booths of Davao Medium and Small Enterprises, government agencies, local government unit, and companies outside of Davao City.
