SILAY City has always been known as the “Paris of Negros.”
Culture and art were brought in by well-traveled Negrenses particularly Silaynons, who shipped furniture, decorative pieces like chandeliers, and even floor tiles from Europe to adorn their beautiful Spanish-inspired homes back in the heydays of Negros.
The first Cultural Center of the Philippines was built in Silay, now known as the Civic Center, where musical performers in opera, theatrical plays, and art exhibitions by well known painters were held.
Art still thrives in Negros, where it has produced numerous talents in various mediums like dance, painting, and sculpture.
In celebration of the Independence Day in Silay City’s “Kaon Ta” event, Negrense artists are coming together to put up an art exhibition on June 11, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Margarita’s Garden.
Participating artists are Rodney Martinez, Dennis Ascalon, Christoph Sagemuller, Junjun Montelibano, Anika Marie Loquite, Jay-r Delleva, Charlie Co, Susanito Sarnate, Erika Mayo, Alan Ong Roderick Tijing, Frelan Gonzaga, Karina Broce Gonzaga, Charlie Co, Faye Abantao, Hilario Campos III, Mikiboy Pama, Moreen Austria, Edbon Sevilleno, Jecky Alano, Rafael Paderna, and Nunelucio Alvarado.
