Explosive Sunday for Negros boxing

BOXING fans across the island of Negros are expected to flock to the Casino Filipino Hotel to witness history unfold.

On Sunday afternoon, our very own Junjun "Tiger" Sabillo will fight Jetli Purisima of General Santos City for the Philippine Minimumweight Championship, while Arthur "El Matador" Villanueva will face Brix "Bomb" Ray of Davao City for the Philippine Flyweight Belt.

Sabillo carries a record of W12 L0 KO7. He is well known brawler who doesn't know the word retreat.

Purisima, on the other hand, is ranked number 2 in the Philippines and is another aggressive boxer who counterpunches.

The bout is a guaranteed thriller just the like the first two fights between the two warriors months ago.

Villanueva holds a record of W12 L0 KO8. He is known as El Matador because of his technical intelligence which can tame the aggression of a bullish opponent. His opponent Brix Ray is a well experienced veteran as an amateur and has beaten noteworthy opponents as a professional.

Bomb Ray's latest victim was Korean Big Yoo who was recently knocked out by ALA gym's AJ Banal in Bohol. Experience advantage in this fight goes to Bomb Ray but Villanueva has been preparing himself for this biggest break in his young career.

As a bonus presentation, Cabatuan Iloilo's native Denver "The Excitement" Cuello will fight in a tune up match versus Candihay, Bohol's Arnel Tadena.

Cuello is the current WBC International Minimumweight Champion but the fight will be played at 107 pounds. Cuello is not named Excitement for nothing. His third round demolition of Mexican knock-out artist Juan Hernandez has made him the most avoided contender in the 105 division.

The undercards will showcase Negrense boxers from the Guanzon Stable versus opponents from other provinces. The event is being brought to us by J.R. Eagle Promotions in cooperation with Naris and Jaro International Boxing Promotions together with Coca-cola, PAGCOR and other sponsors.

Special acknowledgment to Hon. Juan Ramon "Monju" Guanzon, Rev. Henry Guanzon, Aljoe Jaro and Naris Singwangcha for making this great event possible. Special mention to Naba Vice President Dodong Bascon for his great support for the event.
