Facebook post leads to arrest of camera thief

A FACEBOOK post of stolen items led to the arrest of a suspected thief in an entrapment on 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, inside a mall in North Reclamation area in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Senior Inspector Windell Abellana, the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG)-Central Visayas team leader, identified the suspect as Giovane "Vanessa" Alfafara Phala, who is 26 and a resident of Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

The entrapment against the suspect was supervised by Superintendent Josefino Ligan, the Regional Intelligence Division-Central Visayas officer-in-charge.

Phala's victim is Lemuel Montejo, 33. His gadgets Nikkon 85mm f1.8D, Nikkon 50mm f1.4D, Nikkon 105mm f2.8D, Photoolex battery grip for D600, lenspen and step-up ring for filter amounting to P45,000 were stolen by the suspect past 7 p.m. Saturday, January 20.

The devices were placed inside the victim's bag, which he placed on the ground while taking pictures of the fireworks display.

Montejo told the police the stolen items were posted on a Facebook page he happened to read.

He then sought the help of RID and RSOG and it resulted to an entrapment of the suspect.

The suspect will be charge for violating the Presidential Decree 1612, or the Anti-Fencing Law. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
