Faithful urged to pray for Vidal’s recovery

CEBU Archbishop Jose Palma urged everyone to pray for the recovery of Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.

Vidal, 86, is confined at the Perpetual Succour Hospital (PSH) in Cebu City after suffering from various ailments since last Wednesday.

Palma told reporters that he went to the hospital last Friday to check on Vidal’s condition.

Palma said that Vidal will undergo a series of medical tests to determine his overall health.

Palma hopes that Vidal will recover soon as it has been the latter’s wish to be still around when the late Archbishop Teofilo Camomot is beatified.

“Ampo lang kita nga maayo pa siya (We’ll just pray that he’ll get well soon),” Palma added.

Vidal was admitted at the PSH after complaining of nausea and shortness of breath last Wednesday dawn. Later that day, Vidal slipped into a semi-coma.

Palma and Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo visited the prelate on Thursday and administered the Sacrament of Extreme Unction on Vidal.

Vidal regained consciousness last Friday.

Dr. Rene Bullecer said Vidal suffered from sepsis and not from cardiac arrest, as initially reported.
