THE fate of the 12 Cebu City Traffic Operations and Management (Citom) personnel undergoing retraining and rehabilitation lies in the hands of the next mayor.
This was disclosed yesterday by Citom executive director Arnel Tancinco, as the traffic enforcers are on their second week of retraining.
They and 36 other traffic enforcers were charged with extorting from motorists in traffic violations.
30-day program
Mayor Tomas Osmeña fired 31 of them earlier this month, for failing to prove their innocence.
Tancinco said the 12 traffic enforcers already finished their drill last week and they are undergoing civic activity training at the South Road Properties.
After civic works, Tancinco said they will undergo public accountability, integrity training and a civil service seminar, among others.
He said the program will last 30 days but they can extend the retraining and rehabilitation program if the need arises.
He clarified, though, that completion of the program is not a guarantee that they will be assigned back in the field.
Reassessment
“We will reassess them after the program, but the new mayor will decide what to do with them,” Tancinco said in Cebuano.
He said Osmeña wanted to fire the 12 after he dismissed the 31 erring Citom personnel but he couldn’t do that because of the election ban. Besides, the allegations against the 12 could not be validated, Tancinco said.
The Citom executive director added that the dismissed traffic enforcers were the ones who implicated the 12.
