FDA warns of 9 household, urban pesticide products

CONSUMERS are warned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to not purchase household and urban pesticides with instructions and label written in other foreign languages with no English or Tagalog translation as there are currently nine unregistered household and urban pesticide products that are being sold out in the market nationwide.

Consumers were further reminded to purchase said products only in reputable stores and dealers, to read the label making sure that it contains FDA registration number.

Included in the official statement released by FDA were (1) Human Nature 100% Natural Bug Shield Mosquito Repellent Deet-Free Oil, (2) Pili Bug Me Not Moisturizing Lotion Made with Pure Pili Oil, (3) Lion-Tiger Mosquito Killer King Size New Improved, (4) Lion-Tiger Mosquito Killer Lavender Scented Coils, (5) Mon-Expert Quality Mosquito Coil Lavender, (6) Read a Dream Yuanmeng Mosquito Repellent Incense, (7) Sweet Dream High Quality Black Mosquito Repellant Incense (Jasmine), (8) Wawang Sun Universe Frogking Insecticide Aerosol (Lemon), and (9) Wawang Sun Universe Frogking Insecticide Aerosol (Rose).

The items vary in terms of the places they were manufactured from. Some are manufactured locally, others from China, Thailand, while still other are not indicated on the labels.

“[I]f a household/urban pesticide product has not been evaluated by FDA as in the case of these unregistered products, the use of such products may pose potential health hazards to the consuming public. FDA cannot guarantee their quality, efficacy, and safety. Such products are harmful, toxic, and may pose imminent danger to human and animal health. The use of substandard and possibly adulterated household/urban pesticide products may result to adverse reactions including but not limited to skin irritation, itchiness, anaphylactic shock, respiratory disorders, endocrine complications, brain damage, and organ failure,” read FDA’s official release.

Further, concerned establishments’ cooperation was asked by making sure distribution of the said products will not be continued until the companies have complied with the necessary authorization.
