Fisherman rescued off Bredco port

A FISHERMAN was rescued after his boat capsized off Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port Wednesday afternoon, August 30.

Lieutenant Senior Grade Jimmy Oliver Vingno, head of Coast Guard Station-Bacolod, identified the fisherman as Theodore de la Vega, 42, of Purok Mabinuligon, Barangay Sum-ag in Bacolod City.

Vingno said De la Vega was fishing around 12:30 p.m. when his boat capsized due to strong winds and big waves.

Around 3:30 p.m. Chief Officer Renz Rigo Mulle of SuperCat’s St. Emmanuel was on his way to Iloilo City when he spotted De la Vega calling for help.

Vingno said vessel officers and crew helped the fisherman and called for assistance from the Philippine Coast Guard.

De la Vega returned to the city only around 6 p.m. because the vessel still had to proceed to Iloilo.

He was unharmed and arrived safely in Bacolod, Vingno said.

Vingno advised fishermen to bring a lifejacket or any safety gear that can help them in case of emergency at sea.
