Fisherman shot by Bantay Dagat

A FISHERMAN from Hinigaran, Negros Occidental was injured after he was allegedly shot by a member of the Bantay Dagat of Guimaras Province on Monday.

Police identified the victim as Eric de la Cruz, 39, of Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay II.

Chief Inspector Gary Alan Resuma, chief of Hinigaran Municipal Police Station, said De la Cruz and his crew were on board a pump boat and reached the territorial waters of Guimaras when they were flagged down by two of the four Bantay Dagat members.

De la Cruz and his crew did not stop, prompting the Bantay Dagat personnel to fire at them.

De la Cruz sustained gunshot wounds and was treated at a hospital.

Resuma said the fishermen probably reached the prohibited area in Guimaras waters.

He added that they are already coordinating with the authorities in Guimaras.

Meanwhile, another fisherman was stabbed to death at Sitio Maninihon, Barangay Guinhalaran in Silay City, Negros Occidental on Monday, police said.

Fatality Danny Arandilla, 46, was attacked by Orlando Toche, 40.

Police are eyeing grudge as the motive.
