THE 18th City Council approved on first reading a resolution endorsing the proposed Davao Food Complex project of the National Development Company (NDC).
Agriculture and food committee chair Councilor Marissa Abella endorsed the resolution after the City Development Council Executive Committee passed the item on November 6, 2017 to members of the City Council and the Davao Regional Development Council.
Last September 6, 2017, NDC wrote the City Government of Davao, requesting for an endorsement from the Council and the CDC as part of the requirement of the Regional Development Council to undertake the food complex project.
The NDC owns three contiguous parcels of land containing the total area of 25 hectares located in Barangay Daliao, Toril District, where the proposed Davao Food Complex project will be located.
In 2012, the NDC Board approved the project that includes the establishment of a trading post, food processing centers, and cold storage facility, technology/business incubation center, and agro-tourism attractions.
As complementary initiative, the Department of Agriculture and the City Government of Davao will establish a trading component of the project, the Agri-Pinoy Trading Center wherein a Memorandum of Agreement was executed between NDC and the City Government of Davao, allowing the use of five-hectare portion of the NDC Toril property.
The project is proposed to be undertaken through a joint venture with a private partner.
The Regional Development Council passed Resolution 35, series of 2017 last June 9, 2017, enjoining NDC to conduct further consultations with the City Government of Davao, the Department of Trade and Industry-Davao, Department of Agriculture-Davao, and concerned stakeholders to enhance the proposal for the Davao Food Complex.
NDC sought for the favorable endorsement from the council after the consultations.
