Former City Hall exec applies for probation

FORMER Bacolod City executive assistant Reynaldo Ebreo, who was found guilty for slight physical injuries and sentenced to an imprisonment of 11 days, has applied for probation before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) in Bacolod City.

City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan said on September 28 that he received an order from the court signed by Judge Francisco Pando of MTCC Branch 4, stating that Ebreo applied for probation.

Last September 2, Ebreo was found guilty for slight physical injuries for hitting colleague Marlou “Nonoy” Amago eight years ago.

As civil indemnity, the court ordered Ebreo to pay Amago P2,000 for moral damages and P10,000 for attorney’s fees.

When the incident happened in June 16, 2008, Ebreo was also an executive assistant under the Office of the Mayor.

Bayatan said that Ebreo’s application for probation is an admission of guilt where instead of serving the sentence, he opted for a reformatory process for the offense that he committed.

“Nonetheless, this is a suspension of his sentence, but it is a way of admitting that he had indeed committed an offense,” he said.

The court order dated September 15 stated that Ebreo is directed to report to the Probation Officer within 72 hours from receipt of the order.

Pending approval of his application for probation, the accused is entrusted to the custody of lawyer Lorenzo Alminaza, who gave his conformity to the application of the accused to be released on his recognizance, the court order stated.
