Frenzied

“I THINK the anchovies did the trick,” that was the thought I had in mind after I tasted an Italian pizza being served in one of the restos here in Davao City.

What makes this thought a big deal to me is the fact that I am not really a big fan of pizza but there was just something almost unexplainable in its taste that made me want to crave for more pizza slices.

Last Friday, I was in a coverage at the SM Lanang Premiere when I headed straight to La Toscana, an authentic Italian restaurant in Arellano St. in Davao City, for another interview.

The resto, which is owned by an Italian businessman, serves authentic Italian cuisine.

After the interview, I was being served a whole pie of pizza where half of it was composed of Pizza Romana (topped with anchovies) and Pizza Margherita.

For the Pizza Romana, I loved how the saltiness of anchovies complimented its crust very well. It did not give an aggressive salty taste but it instead made the whole pizza savory. I would definitely be back for some slices!

The Pizza Margherita, I should say, is a good pair for the Pizza Romana as it would neutralized the salty taste of the Pizza Romana topped with anchovies. If you're not really up for some salty snack then Margherita will be your kind of pizza - cheesy and light to the tongue.

The place was also okay and it is where you can eat pizza and had it coupled with a good glass of wine or two.
