Gabutan, Golez seek knock out in 'Highland Brawl'

DAYER Gabutan and Roilo Golez promised fireworks when they clash anew in the main event of "Highland Brawl: The Return Bout" tonight at the La Trinidad Gym.

Gabuta, the former WBO Oriental bantamweight champion, hopes to avenge his lost against Golez last in June last year.

“Coach Joven Jorda and I have crafted a perfect game plan against Golez. We want a knock out to avenge my loss last year,” said the Benguet State University BS Agriculture student.

Gabutan added despite the 13 month layoff, stamina won’t be a problem who has been in the gym serving as sparring mates for his teammates at the Highland Boxing Gym.

But Golez have the same in mind and says he has the advantage after his knockout victory against the Besao, Mountain Province native.

“I know his moves, I defeated him before, I’ll defeat him again this time,” said the former WBC Asia minimumweight weight title holder from Maco, Compostela valley.

Highland Brawl will also feature up and coming boxer KJ Natuplag who is undefeated in four bouts squaring off against Bener Santig, holder of the Philippines Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) super bantamweight title in the event hatched by the Highland Boxing and DMAD Boxing Promotions.

Also in the undercard is Brian Lobetania (11-4-3) taking on Danilo Peña in a six rounder featherweight match of the event backed by Benguet Governor Crescencio Pacalso, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda, and Mary Jane Gacad.

Jones Montes and James Lingbanan, meanwhile, debuts in a welterweight match together with Freddie Gomera and Marlon Balancado. Six amateur bouts will also see action in the evening with former world champion Rey Bautista serving as guest referee. Eliezer Anneque takes on Chim Apopot (59 kg) while Louie Jorda and Rodin Tindo takes on each other in the 54 kilogram division with JM Upura tangling with Ken Langpa in the 60 kg division. Christopher Bay-an, meanwhile, battles Rosendo Autida (51kg) as Yong Tenorio takes on Jonard Idio (49 kg).

The event is backed by Benguet Governor Crescencio Pacalso, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda, and Mary Jane Gacad and the Philippine Military Academy. (Roderick Osis)
