Gacad: Appointed or disappointed

HOW many sides does a coin have? When you ask somebody this question, the most probable answer you will get is “two.” Apparently, this is a wrong answer, as there is no coin with 2 sides, and every coin has at least 3 sides. The disk shaped coins have two faces i.e. head and tail; and an edge. Edge is not the right word for it, but there is no other suitable word for it. We always ignore this third side of the coin. But we ignore the fact, and like to say that every coin has two sides.

How many sides does a basketball court have? Nanod would say “two.” These are the inside and outside.

The on-going government rationalization program aims to transform the Executive Branch into a more effective and efficient government. It seeks to focus government efforts on its vital functions and channel government resources to these core public services and improve the efficiency of government services, within affordable levels, and in the most accountable manner. Government needs to rationalize government operations to put its house in order. Government also has to keep pace with changing demands and technologies.

What may have been a relevant undertaking for the government a number of years ago may no longer be necessary at the present time. As a result, many positions were up for grabs for the “best” and most deserving applicant. Hence two results, the person getting the position is appointed. Those who did not, as a normal reaction, get disappointed. That's just the way it works. In a basketball game, it's either win or lose. Except for exhibitions, the game never ends up in a tie.

The time is now. The third round of the boxing match a number of people have dubbed “Mining vs. GLo,” has finished. Now it is waiting time (again). Time to look at the score cards and find out who stands after the dust has cleared.

Regardless of the outcome, one side will be disappointed. But that's how it works. We have rules and we should follow the rules. If we did not have laws, then it would be chaos all over. “Dura Lex Sed Lex” (The law is harsh, but it is the law). What is important is we uphold and respect the law. No one is above the law and ignorance of the law excuses no one.

So what gives?

We'll find out in a few hours, or in a few days. I urge you not to look at the two sides only. Let's look at the third side - and that is moving forward!

“Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well (or the way we want it to turn out) but the certainty that something (will) make(s) sense, regardless of how it turns out.” - Vaclav Havel

“Fall forward. Sometimes, it’s the best way to figure out where you’re going. Never be discouraged, never hold back, give everything you got, and when you fall throughout life remember this: fall forward.” - Denzel Washington
