CONGRATULATIONS to the Baguio Pines City Lions Club, headed by its current President Tonton Bautista, on its 41st Charter Anniversary. The Club celebrated the milestone with a fellowship dinner last Saturday graced by the Hon. Mark Go, lone Representative of Baguio City, as Guest of Honor and Speaker. Also with the group was former Baguio Mayor Peter Rey Bautista. I learned during the dinner that in October 1976, a group of 31 gentlemen originally formed the Baguio Pines City Lions Club whose Charter was approved in November 22, 1976, 41 years ago. The theme of the 41st anniversary is "The Power of WE." Indeed, the power of togetherness, the power of unity will reap benefits and blessings for most everyone.
Lions Clubs world-wide recognize outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that is named for its founder, Melvin Jones. This award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.
The recipient of this award becomes a model of exemplary service to his club and the community which it serves. We are proud to have within the current membership of Baguio Pines City Lions Club individuals that have received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Last Saturday, Lion Engelbert Soriano was presented his Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Congrats Brother Engel and keep the fire of Lionism burning wherever you may be assigned (hope to see you in Legazpi in January 2018).
The Chevron Award Program recognizes Lions for their long-term service, beginning at 10 years and continuing in five year increments until 75 years of service. There are two different types of chevrons that vary slightly in appearance, the Charter Monarch Chevron, available to founding club members only, and the Monarch Chevron. Chevron awards for the current fiscal year are automatically sent to district governors in the first quarter for presentation to the recipients at an appropriate event, such as a district convention or other celebration. During last saturday's affair, the Chevron Awardees were Lion Moises Cating (45 years), Lion Carlos Teraoka (45 years), Lion Paul Mencio (10 years) and Lion Jun Benavidez (10 years). Congrats mga lodi petmalu!
Three new members were also inducted into the club, namely, Christian Espiritu, Christian A. Hidalgo and Arvin Aban, all of whom are sons of Pines City Lions Past Presidents Tony Espiritu, Viyo Hidalgo and Manny Aban, respectively. District Governor Maury Tabora administered the oath of membership to the new inductees and reminded the "bunsos" to, among others, attend meetings regularly (big smile on my face and Past President Ray Dacones).
Cheers fellow Lions and see you on the 42nd anniversary (haha joke lang brother Jovits!)
Hep hep... ROAR!
