Gaisano not happy with presence of fish vendors

OFFICIALS of Bacolod City are willing to sit down with the management of Gaisano Department Store to discuss the presence of fish vendors on Ballesteros Street, which is right beside its building.

City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan said on Wednesday they received the letter-complaint of Gaisano on Tuesday, questioning the presence of the fish vendors.

The letter was signed by Maria Chone Tan, area operations manager of Negros Gaisano Group of Companies.

Last week, fish vendors occupying Luzuriaga Street were transferred to Ballesteros Street to ease the traffic congestion at the downtown area.

They are allowed to occupy the area from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Bayatan said that based on Gaisano’s letter, they are planning to put an exit door along Ballesteros Street.

“We are making a remedy to address the fish vendors and the traffic congestion at the downtown area. This is a matter of regulation, maybe we can talk with Gaisano on how to regulate it there,” he said.

“If they (Gaisano) have a better or alternative plan for the fish vendors, we will listen to them,” Bayatan said.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets, had earlier said that Luzuriaga Street is prone to traffic congestion because of the volume of vehicles picking up passengers in the area, thus they needed to transfer the fish vendors to another area.
