Gasataya: DPWH to assist BTAO in painting of pedestrian lanes

BACOLOD City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya said on Friday, May 12 that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will assist the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) in the painting of pedestrian lanes on national highways.

Gasataya said District Engineer Abraham agreed to provide assistance to help the City Government in the implementation of the anti-jaywalking ordinance.

He said the DPWH will concentrate on the national highways, but they are also ready to assist the BTAO in painting the local roads.

Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO, had earlier said they have finished painting the pedestrian lanes at the downtown area, and they will do the areas on Lacson Street next.

Gasataya said the DPWH allotted a budget for the city’s pedestrian lanes and the agency is coordinating with the BTAO to identify the priority areas.

He added that the DPWH will also provide pavement markings in various areas.

From April 3 to 26, a total of 1,020 persons were caught for violating the anti-jaywalking ordinance at the downtown area.

Of the 1,020 violators, 214 failed to pay the penalties and were brought to the Bacolod City Police Office compound to render four hours of community service.

BTAO also collected P180,000 worth of penalties.
