Girl, 8, rescued from hostage taker

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Police safely rescued an 8-year old girl who was taken hostage inside a church in Barangay Poblacion, Bocaue, Bulacan, Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Divina, Bulacan police provincial director, said Patricia Mae Basila, 8, a grade 3 pupil and a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan, Bocaue was attending her first holy communion mass at Saint Martin of Tours Parish church located at said barangay when Erwin Latina, 32, a resident of Barangay Batia also of said town grabbed her.

The suspect threatened to kill the girl by breaking her neck, Divina said.

The girl was turned over to Municipal Social Welfare and Development.

Divina said the suspect is now detained at the Bocaue Police Station and appropriate charges were filed in court against him.
