'Glamping' on Mt. Apo

IN A bid to increase economic activities in local government units surrounding Mt. Apo, the Department of Tourism (DOT) 11 ha endorsed glamorous camping or "glamping" as one of its main attraction for the year 2016.

Kidapawan City, Makilala, Magpet, Digos City, Sta. Cruz, and Bansalan considered "glamping" as the newest activity offered to climbers that will surely benefit residents in these areas.

Sta. Cruz tourism officer Julius Paner told Sun.Star Davao in an interview yesterday, "glamping will employ more manpower in our communities."

The activity which is usually requested by the climbers who belong in the higher segment of the market is open for the whole year.

It will provide a totally different experience from ordinary mountain climbing for the guests will only need to walk their way up to the top of the country's highest peak.

"There will be people assigned to cook for their food and everything that they are going to need," Paner added.

Every climber will also have their own porter and guide for the three-day activity.

Including permits from the LGU, porter and guide's fee, tent, sleeping bag, food, and camping stove, it will only cost one to pay between P7,000-P10,000.

While a group of ten people will have to pay around P50,000 to P60,000.

"Glamping" on Mt. Apo is only one of the tour developments of the DOT for 2016. Food tours, bar tours, and the opening of Mt. Hamiguitan eco-park are among the other activities to watch out for the next year.
