ABOUT 500 students from the nursing department of West Negros University attended the launching and distribution of the first Disaster Management Book authored Dr. Anthony Golez.
The launching of the book, titled “Protector sang Pamilya: Family Survival Book,” was part of the campus tour of Golez a Bacoleño, former presidential deputy spokesperson, former administrator of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and, deputy administrator of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC).
His campus tour will continue Monday at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Alijis campus.
“The book must be placed beside the bible as this book saves lives,” said Golez.
Golez, a congressional candidate for the lone district of Bacolod under the Grupo Progreso Party of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, thought of writing the book because of his experience being well-equipped with the knowledge on disaster management.
As a physician, Golez preferred to practice his profession as a public health doctor. He served as Medical Director of the DYA-Recoletos in Bacolod in 2001. He also served at the Lingkod ER at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and used to ran the “Botica sang Barangay” of the Department of Health.
He was also able to increase the coverage of PhilHealth cards to five million during his stint with the Department of Health (DOH) and had worked to combat Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars), and Bird Flu Virus.
Aside from his experiences with the DOH, he preferred to be commissioned and served around the country under the banner of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). He was ranked as a Major in the reserve command of the AFP and has a specialized training in Hawaii National Guard and the US State Department on Bioterrorism, particularly on Radiologic- Biologic Nuclear Warfare.
He was also identified as a Negrense doctor and he was only 34 years old then.
Golez said his wife Soraya and their daughter were his inspiration in writing the book.
It’s available at the National Bookstore at P290. But Golez gave the books for free to the students.
He already launched the book at the Riverside College and UNO-Recoletos.
