THE new roll on-roll off and fast craft wharf is currently under construction by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) in Barangay Progreso Lapuz district in this city.
Another DOTC project is soon to be started in Parola wharf at Port San Pedro designed to accommodate pump boats and ferry boats from the island of Guimaras.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has started the expansion and upgrading of the Iloilo fish port complex in this city to accommodate fishing vessels and make the fish port more productive.
The DA through its National Meat Inspection Commission will soon complete the rehabilitation and upgrading of the city’s slaughterhouse into a Triple-A abattoir to include refrigeration and more safe meats for consumers.
On the other hand, the National Housing Authority (NHA) is completing its first 1,000 houses in Barangay Lanit, Jaro for more than 3,000 informal settlers displaced from riverbanks and tributaries, other danger zones and victims of natural calamities and fire.
The other relocation site is in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo to accommodate another batch of 1,000 families and the City Government is still looking for other lots to buy in order to accommodate the informal settlers. The P300 million funding came from the NHA, Office of the President and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The Department of Health is funding the reconstruction of the Lapaz Maternity Clinic into a full hospital in La Paz district and also assisted funding in the construction of a city hospital annex at the compound of Western Visayas Medical Center.
Drilon was instrumental in the construction of a P500 million Iloilo International Convention Center in time for the hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministerial Meeting in 2015.
The funding came from Drilon’s own priority development assistance fund and the Department of Tourism-Tourism Infrastructure Enhancement Zone Authority including the upgrading and rehabilitation of seven historical sites in Iloilo City.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is deeply involved in the restoration, upgrading and rehabilitation of the Iloilo River, Batiano River, river tributaries and the four city creeks.
