AN “APPLE type” grenade was found in front of the house of Mayor Jose Nadie Arceo at Sitio Pahilanga in Barangay Miranda, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental Tuesday morning, September 26.
Chief Inspector Jake Barila, town police chief, said the grenade was found by a security guard hidden in a grassy portion around 10 a.m.
The guard called for police assistance and turned over the grenade to the responding officers.
Barila said the grenade has a safety lever and pin and is probably an active type of explosive.
Arceo was at the municipal hall while his wife was at their house when he was informed about the recovered explosive.
Arceo, in a phone interview, said he was probably threatened due to his intensified war against illegal drugs.
“It could probably be a warning or a threat because I am active in the campaign against illegal drugs in Hinigaran,” the mayor added.
Barila said they are exploring every angle in the investigation.
Investigators will also check the footages from the closed circuit television camera at the mayor’s house.
