Group eyes making biggest veggie salad

THE LEAGUE of Associations at the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post wants to make the biggest veggie salad.

In a letter seeking support from Vice Mayor Joey Marrero and the Municipal Council, the association said plans for the making of the world’s biggest vegetable salad has been conceptualized by the group next month.

“In this occasion, we plan to hold various activities that include vegetable carving, vegetable landscaping, and heaviest or biggest vegetable among others. The highlight would be the giant vegetable salad which we plan to be some sort of preparation for Guinness Book of Records application in the coming years,” Nora Ganase, president of the league said.

The league is composed of various associations whose members are stakeholders of the local vegetable industry, buyers, disposers, farmers, packers and porters

The group was revived with the aim to unite all vegetable stakeholders and partner with government and non-government agencies in improving and promoting the local vegetable industry.

The event is slated on the 1st Foundation Day of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post on July 13.

Ganase said at the moment, the largest salad weighing 20,100 kg was achieved by Mouzenidis Travel, on Red Square in Moscow, Russia in 2016.

It was a Greek salad consisting of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, feta cheese, olive oil, oregano and salt.

Ganase said there is no existing pure green salad yet.

She added the event will not only promote the vegetable industry but the municipality and its tourism as well.

La Trinidad has kept the moniker for its fresh berries and stamped its recognition with a Guinness World record for the largest strawberry cake baked in 2005.

The place is also known to have a thriving vegetable industry.
