Group to mark Valentine’s Day with coastal clean-up

A GROUP advocating for environment protection is celebrating Valentine's Day with a coastal clean-up activity that will be held simultaneously in all provinces of Davao Region on Sunday.

Aagapay, an advocacy group that promotes four inherent traits of the Filipinos being "Maka-Diyos", "Makatao", "Makakalikasan" and "Makabansa", showed its love for the environment by conducting a coastal clean-up drive named as "Oplan Pagmamahal sa Kalikasan."

Today, Sunday, Aagapay volunteers will hold the said activity in Compostela Valley Province, Davao City, Davao del Sur, Tagum City, and Davao Oriental.

The activity will be participated by local government units, barangay officials and residents of the said places, volunteers from the military, students, and other cause-oriented groups that aim to protect the environment.

Likewise, a tree-planting activity will take place in Barangay Magsaysay in Compostela.

Aagapay strongly upholds the value of being pro-environment as the advocates believe that as stewards of God’s creation, the people have the responsibility to care and preserve the environment.

Aagapay also believes that it is necessary to have a clean environment in order for the people to fully enjoy and appreciate the beauty of nature, as well as to avoid illnesses that usually come from unclean surroundings.

Last December 12, 2009, Aagapay also conducted a successful simultaneous tree-planting activity nationwide. The activity was done to lessen the effects of global warming and other environmental problems that the country is facing today.

The volunteers believe that by working together, Filipinos can make their environment clean and green. (BOT)
