A PROPOSAL in the Baguio City Council urges the posting of security guards at the Baguio Convention Center.
The guards were pulled out in 2009 because of budget cutbacks.
During a recent session, the council determined that is time to bring the guards back.
City Administrator Carlos Canilao and City Tourism Officer Benny Alhambra had submitted a proposal to allocate funds for a security force for the center.
General Services Officer Romeo Concio said his office used to set aside a budget for the center’s security used to have security guards but were pulled out because of the lack of funds.
In 2009, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. terminated the services of the security force for "uncertainty of use of funds."
Concio said the center needs guards to control the crowds that attend the events there.
He said P1 million is needed annually to pay for six guards.
In 2014, the Baguio Convention Center earned P3.16 million.
Councilor Richard Cariño said, "I think this is an eye-opener that the Convention Center is not earning enough that it cannot even afford a security guard.” (GJF)
