Gun-for-hire gang arrested in Davao

FOUR suspected gun-for-hire and alleged members of the Repolyo gang suspected to be behind various killings in Mati City were arrested in a joint operation launched by the Governor Generoso Municipal Police Station under the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office (DOPPO) last Thursday.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao had named the suspects Monday as Regar Torreon, Julieto Manguimpa, Jerry Mabolis and Eddie Perales, which are all of legal age and residents of Governor Generoso.

PRO-Davao spokesperson Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said that the suspects are members of the Repolyo gang which is active in Davao Oriental.

"Itong apat mga gun-for-hire ito, at alleged na sila ay mga miyembro ng Repolyo gang sa Davao Oriental (The four suspects are hitmen and are alleged to be members of the Repolyo gang in Davao Oriental)," dela Cerna said in an interview with SunStar Superbalita Monday.

Dela Cerna added that they are continuously conducting an investigation to determine whether the four are involved in the killing of Prosecutor Rolando Acido, a city prosecutor in Mati City, last October 26.

"Patuloy ang ating ginagawang imbestigasyon sa apat kung sila ba ay may koneksyon sa pagpatay sa piskal, but so far hindi pa sila nakokonek doon base sa imbestigasyon ng DOPPO (We are continuously conducting an investigation on the suspects to know if they had a connection in the killing of the prosecutor but so far, no connection has been established yet based on the investigation of the DOPPO)," dela Cerna added.

Authorities also found that a certain Rey Madanlo, who was identified as the leader of the gang and has a standing warrant of arrest, remains at large.

According to the information from the PRO-Davao, the four were riding on a Mazda Bonggo elf when they were cornered by the police and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) in Barangay Tibanban, Governor Generoso.

Seized from their possessions are different kinds of ammunitions and firearms like the Bersa thunder .380w/2 mags, .45 calibre Colt Gold Cup with three magazines, a .45 caliber Colt MK IV with two magazines, “amulet” belts and three cell phones.

The operation was deemed successful due to the reliable information being relayed to the police.

The Governor Generoso MPS are now preparing for the possible charges they can lodged against for suspects before the court.
