Guv: Clear Bacolod streets of squatters

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. Monday, October 2, asked the officials of Bacolod City to clear the city’s roads of squatters.

The governor noted that some of the settlers have occupied half of the streets which have caused road congestion.

He said that San Juan Street going to Banago Village is being occupied by squatters.

“Ang dalan da sa Diotay’s (Eatery), nag tunga na lang ang dalan. Damo na dalan sa Bacolod gina squat-an,” the governor said.

He said that the city government should clear the streets to ease the flow of traffic.

“Tani limpyohan na kay amo na (maka) ease up sang traffic di sa Lacson-Mandalagan, going to Pepsi. Ang bottleneck ara sa atubang Rob (Robinsons Place),” the governor said.

He added: “Kitid, kay kadamo sang squatters. Tindugan nila balay ang dalan. Iya na ubra sang Bacolod.”

Marañon said the right-of-way of the property owned by the Capitol going to Sum-ag will be covered by the 21-kilometer economic highway of Bacolod.

He said it is still being worked out, adding that the City Government is expected to pay the Capitol for the right-of-way.

Marañon said the economic highway, which costs P4.8 billion, is 45-meters wide.

The highway, which will start at the Bacolod-Silay Access Road in Barangay Bata in the north, will cover the barangays of Sum-ag, Cabug, Felisa, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Estefania, Granada, and Mandalagan.
