LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Governor Nestor Fongwan said it is the responsibility of the government of this capital town to look for a relocation site for victims of typhoon Pepeng.
To this day, those rendered homeless by typhoon in 2009 are still without proper housing.
Fongwan said the local government unit has not solved the third party dispute over the area nor has it scoured for alternative sites for the victims.
“We have done all that we can for this,” the governor said.
Residents have gone back to the Little Kibungan area as the relocation site in Tawang is riddled with land woes. The Tawang site intended for homeless typhoon victims have filed for a nullification of the Presidential Proclamation awarding the site.
Fongwan said the Provincial Government facilitated the proclamation during the aftermath of the killer typhoon which almost brought the province to its knees.
The Tawang relocation site awarded by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is being claimed by at least seven families.
The Tawag site, formerly owned by the Benguet State University, was identified by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as the best site based on safety standards.
Tawang is divided into two parcels of land. Parcel 1 is 1.7 hectares while parcel 2 is pegged at 1.6 hectares comprising the 3.3 relocation site where 152 and 141 lots for housing will be set up.
