Hedcor hydropower plant in Mt. Province bombed

PEACE and power supply of Mt. Province was compromised in a bombing Tuesday night by still unidentified suspects.

The province suffered a power blackout following the bombing of the control room of Hedcor’s 14-MW Sabangan Hydropower Plant tapping point in Otucan Norte, Bauko, late Tuesday evening.

Chris Faelnar, Hedcor Sabangan Inc. senior vice president, said "We denounce this attack that resulted to in the curtailment of power supply and the hampering the development in the province, we continue to closely coordinate with the local governments of Bauko, Sabangan and Mountain Province on our next steps to recover from this unfortunate incident"

The Police Regional Office Cordillera said the Mountain Province Provincial Police Office is currently conducting an investigation on the incident with bombing suspects are still at large.

Faelnar said:11 "We are cooperating with the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, who are investigating the incident and have enhanced security on site.”

Faelnar said 90 percent of company’s equipment was damaged but was quick to assure “[We] have activated our Business Continuity Plan to restore the Sabangan Hydro operation within the soonest possible time.”

The Sabangan power plant is more than a renewable energy facility of AboitizPower and Hedcor, it is a community endeavor.

The plant contributes to the welfare of its host community through royalty shares and energy regulation (ER 1-94) shares out of the plant operations. We employ people from our host community, we pay local and national taxes, and our CSR activities try to uplift the lives of our neighbors.

Hedcor officials assured that no one was hurt during the incident and that all Hedcor personnel were safe and accounted for.
