Hemodialysis training center to open in Zamboanga

THE West Metro Medical Center (West Metro) of the Metro Pacific Hospital Group is establishing a hemodialysis training center for nurses in Zamboanga City.

Ramon Diaz, West Metro president and chief executive officer, said they have already entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with B. Braun Sharing Expertise for the establishment of the center.

It will be the fourth hemodialysis training center in the country. The three existing training centers are located in Davao, Cebu and Manila.

“At the start, they (B. Braun Sharing Expertise) will be the one to send their teachers. It is open to all nursing graduates,” Diaz said citing the training is a six-month course.

“Once you have the certificate as hemodialysis nurse, you can practice anywhere in the country,” he added.

B. Braun is one of the world’s leading providers of health care products.

Diaz said the hemodialysis training center will be opened on the later part of the first quarter next year.

Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Enrique Tayag said the opening of the training center will be a good help to patients.

“They can receive their treatment here. They don’t have to be referred to other places,” Tayag said citing the patient’s expenses will be lessened.

Tayag was the guest speaker of the two-day Medical Symposium and Expo initiated by the West Metro.

The West Metro is a Level II private hospital in the city.

The medical symposium, which ended Friday, September 29, is anchored on the theme “A Continuing Commitment to Healthcare: Overcoming the Geographical Barriers.”

Diaz said the symposium is part of the hospital’s mission to contribute to the development of quality healthcare in Western Mindanao. (SunStar Philippines)
