High-ranking cops in NIR may be displaced, too

TOP-RANKING police officials may also be displaced following the dissolution of Negros Island Region (NIR).

During the transition meeting Friday, August 18, at the Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City, Chief Superintendent Edmund Gonzales, director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-NIR, told the body that the abolition of Negros Island will also have an effect on the command group and division chiefs of the Philippine National Police.

“Kita ko gamay nga dislocation sa mga senior superintendents, nine ni sila nga division chiefs (there will be slight dislocation of senior superintendents, nine of them are division chiefs),” he said.

With the abolition of the NIR, the Bacolod City Police Office and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office will be reverted to PRO-6 in Western Visayas while the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office will join PRO-7 in Central Visayas.

Gonzales said it would be hard for these senior superintendents “to find positions in PRO-6 and PRO-7 considering that most of the positions are already filled.”

That’s the effect of NIR dissolution to PRO-NIR, he said, but none on the strength, performance, and delivery of services.

Gonzales said that some of the personnel from PRO-NIR will be transferred to the two provincial police offices and other city police stations.

“In terms of personnel, we will increase their number in police stations. All vacant positions will be filled according to their corresponding police ranks before we will come with a listing of personnel who will be transferred to PRO-6 and PRO-7 so no policemen will be dislocated,” he said.

The PRO-NIR has already started the inventory of its equipment including the more than 10 Mahindra patrol cars.

Early this week, the policemen of PRO-NIR also met with their counterparts in Iloilo City led by Chief Superintendent Cesar Binag, PRO-6 director.
