How to give donations to Cebu fire victims

CEBU -- Several fire incidents in Cebu City have left residents homeless and in need of basic commodities like food, clothing and shelter.

Mayet Arquio, social worker of the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS), said the DSWS encourages people to coordinate with their office for donations to the fire victims, especially those that were affected in the recent fire that hit Banilad, Duljo-Fatima, Carreta, and Mambaling .

Food items like rice, noodles, canned-goods and non-food items like clothes, soap, pillows, blanket can be donated to the fire victims.

Arquio said the DSWS will then check if donations are still good for consumption, especially food donations.

The DSWS will also check the non-food donations like clothes if they are still wearable and are still in good condition.

People who are planning to give donations can also go directly to the victims.

The Cebu City Government has already distributed relief goods and housing materials to the victims of the recent fire, but more donations are still appreciated, Arquio said. (Aljun Cainghog CIT-University Intern/Sunnex)
