Ice cream vendor shot dead

AN ICE cream vendor was shot dead before his motorcycle was taken away by three unidentified men at Skyline in Barangay Catalunan Grande, Talomo District in Davao City.

Police identified the victim as Rodger Quilayan, 21, also a motorcycle driver, resident of Sitio Soriano in Catalunan Grande.

Initial investigation conducted by the Talomo police revealed the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on San Rafael Street at Skyline.

Quilayan was driving his motorcycle while selling ice cream on the street when three suspects onboard a motorcycle arrived beside the victim and shot him several times.

According to the witness, when the victim fell down on the street, the suspects took his motorcycle and fled to unknown direction.

Talomo Police Station commander Chief Inspector Alfredo Santillan, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said Tuesday that the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds in his head.

"The motive and the group behind his death are still being investigated," Santillan said.

According to the victim's wife, she believed that her husband had not been involved in any unlawful activity.

"We are looking into carnapping and robbery as possible motives but nothing's final yet as we have to meet and investigate the matter," Santillan added.

Santillan also said they would have to review the closed-circuit television camera installed nearby the area to identify the suspects. (ICT/With Jeepy Compio of Sun.Star SuperBalita Davao)
