Icy Baguio pool heated again

THE Heather for Baguio City's public swimming pool is back on again.

The pool's heating facility broke down almost three months ago, and swimmers had to brave the icy water for a dip.

New transformers for the heating facility were installed last weekend, and last Tuesday the pool's water was back to a comfortable 25 degrees Celsius.

City sports coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales told Sun.Star Baguio the city government signed a memorandum of agreement with the Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) to install three new 75 kVA transformers.

The city will pay an initial P544,000 for the new transformers that replace the damaged 50 kVA units.

"We knew the situation must be taken with immediate action especially that the swimming pool is being utilized by many locals during summer season so we requested the city mayor to approve the MOA with Beneco," Gonzales said.

Gonzales said the pool's monthly electricity bill is from P250,000 to P300,000.
