Iloilo Civil Registrar’s Office reconstructs damaged documents

ILOILO CITY -- The City Civil Registrar’s Office (CCRO) is now done reconstructing around 10,000 civil registry documents covering the period 1946 to 1950.

Iloilo City Civil Registrar Romeo Caesar Manikan Jr. said they are now working on damaged civil registry documents from 1951 to 1963 period.

The ongoing reconstruction is part of preparations for the office's migration to a computerized system of data banking and electronic tracking of documents.

Manikan said they have identified a software program for the automation system and hoped to start it this year given the full support of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to the program.

Manikan said these documents were destroyed due to the physical transfer of records, moisture and exposure to termites.

“It would now be easier for us to encode the documents once the reconstruction is completed,” he said. The reconstruction of civil registry documents is allowed under a memorandum circular signed by the Civil Registrar General.

He added that they do it by searching for hard copies or micro-films that are available at the Philippine Statistics Authority.

He assured that clients looking for documents that fall within the period that is undergoing reconstruction will be properly assisted. (PNA)
