Iloilo police want signal jammers installed in jail

THE Iloilo Police Provincial Office (Ippo) has asked for a signal jammer to be installed at the Iloilo Provincial District Jail in Nanga, Pototan.

The Provincial Government is currently assessing whether it could fund the purchase of the device requested on October 4 during the meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC).

Ippo Director Marlon Tayaba, in a previous interview, said they suspect ongoing transactions and operations of high profile inmates involved in the illegal drug trade in the province.

He particularly mentioned high-value inmates Jesus Espinosa and Rolando Torpio, who are currently inside the facility.

Tayaba also said there are even some inmates recently apprehended doing operations using communication devices.

“If the signal will be lost, even if they have communication equipment, they cannot communicate,” he said.

The Ippo previously requested from the Provincial Government communications equipment like radios, radio transmitter and repeaters.

A fund of P2.9 million contained in the supplemental budget was approved by the Provincial Board. (PNA)
