Iloilo to forge sisterhood pact with Palembang, Indonesia

ILOILO City and the City of Palembang in Indonesia are set to forge a sisterhood pact that aims to boost the cities' education, trade and tourism aspects.

The Iloilo City Council has approved a resolution authorizing Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to enter into a sister-city agreement with Palembang after the latter sent a letter of proposal to Mabilog asking for sisterhood relations.

Councilor Liezl Joy Zulueta-Salazar, chairperson of the committee on domestic and international relations, said Iloilo City and other communities may affiliate with cities and other nations of similar characteristics and mutual interests by forging sisterhood agreements as part of the National Government's Philippine International Sisterhood and Twinning Program of the National Government.

Iloilo City is set to establish progressive and friendly relations with other cities around the world to promote tourism and economic partnership.

Among the established sisterhood agreements of Iloilo City are with the city of Stockton, California, USA, two cities in China, two cities in South Korea, two cities in Guam, USA, and other highly-urbanized cities in Metro Manila.
