BACOLOD City Councilor Sonya Verdeflor urged Mayor Evelio Leonardia and the City Administrator’s Office to implement the night market ordinance to address the perennial problem of the ambulant vendors occupying the whole stretch of Luzuriaga Street at night.
Verdeflor, who authored the resolution for the purpose, said the ambulant vendors occupy Luzuriaga Street to sell their wares during night time, causing traffic problems and dangers to pedestrians.
She said it is incumbent upon the City Government to address the perennial problem regarding these ambulant vendors while be concerned with their economic situation at the same time.
“The whole stretch of Luzuriaga Street could be an ideal venue to close and set up a night market to implement the ordinance,” Verdeflor added.
Verdeflor urged chicken breeders and farmers based in Bacolod and Negros Island to raise organic chicken and help promote organic chicken breeding and organic feeds production for suitable living.
The councilor said many experts in the world claim that to meet the needs of society for food, chickens are injected with steroids in the neck or in the wings to accelerate their growth.
She said steroids injected in chickens have terrible effects on the body as it accelerates growth has even more dangerous effect on women, causing changes in hormones that lead to women being more prone to cyst growth in the womb and breasts.
Verdeflor added that organic chicken and organic feeds production ensures that the products come from a mode of production watchful of environmental factors, which prohibits the use of synthetic chemicals and making the welfare of poultry and the consumers, a major concern.
